Standing in Dereham-Neatherd ward:
Philip MORTON
For the past 30 years I have worked in the agricultural supply
chain linking farmers to food manufacturers in Norfolk, I have
lived in Dereham for 25 years with my wife Brigitte raising a
family of three and using all the facilities offered by the
town.
During this time there have been considerable changes and this
pace of change seems set to continue. My concerns are that the
development of Dereham should benefit all parties rather than
having this depend on a number of developers achieving a
profitable return on a variety of individual sites.
New housing is needed to make rents and house prices more
affordable but investment in the necessary infrastructure is
needed to ensure education, health and transport services are
all in place before extra pressure is placed on these already
stretched resources.
I would seek to implement these priorities through the adoption
of a Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) for Dereham. An NDP
encourages more consultation with all the local community
empowering them to set priorities and take control at a local
level.
